OUR MISSION
Rooted in prayer, we reach out to the people of eastern Uganda through:
- Benedictine Eye Hospital – A respected facility providing quality eye care, surgery, and specialized pediatric ophthalmology.
- Benedictine Vocational Training Centre – Equipping youth with marketable skills in mechanics, electrical installation, carpentry, tailoring, and more.
- Pastoral care, farming projects, support for orphans, and spiritual retreats.

As a relatively young monastery (just over 40 years old), we are full of hope and energy. Our dream is to deepen our life of prayer, form holy monks, and expand our service to the poor and needy — all for the greater glory of God.

1981 - Fr. John Neudegger OSB arrives in Tororo from the Nairobi monastery
Fr. John Neudegger OSB arrives in Tororo from the Nairobi monastery. Initially invited to provide spiritual direction to a local community of Benedictine Sisters, he soon recognizes a strong local interest in monastic vocations.
1984 -The monastery is officially established
On November 25, 1984, the monastery is officially established as a pre-foundation of the Congregation of Missionary Benedictines of Saint Ottilien.
1988 - The community opens the Benedictine Eye Hospital
The community opens the Benedictine Eye Hospital (initially a small clinic and dispensary), beginning their long-term commitment to healthcare for the local population.
1993 - Status of a Simple Priory
On November 21, 1993, the foundation is elevated to the status of a Simple Priory. This significant milestone reflects the growing stability and maturity of the community.
